|1. The Mystery of Global Warming’s Missing Heat
Some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years. That could mean global warming has taken a breather. Or it could mean scientists aren’t quite understanding what their robots are telling them.
This is puzzling in part because here on the surface of the Earth, the years since 2003 have been some of the hottest on record. But Josh Willis at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory says the oceans are what really matter when it comes to global warming.
In fact, 80 percent to 90 percent of global warming involves heating up ocean waters. They hold much more heat than the atmosphere can. So Willis has been studying the ocean with a fleet of robotic instruments called the Argo system. The buoys can dive 3,000 feet down and measure ocean temperature. Since the system was fully deployed in 2003, it has recorded no warming of the global oceans.

|3. Nutrition Tip – Calcium: Need it or Not?
Several studies have found that people with higher calcium intakes weigh less. But, there are also studies that show no connection. Findings are similarly equivocal for blood pressure and calcium intake: Some show a benefit, others do not. However, a well-known fact among all health experts is that few Americans meet their calcium requirements solely from food, so we sugggest a supplement. In addition, aim for two to three servings of low-fat, calcium-rich foods a day, filling in the gap with supplements. It’s important to note that women taking osteoporosis drugs should still take calcium supplements because the effectiveness of these drugs depends on ample calcium intake.

|5. Wired Vs Wireless
For my money, I am a fan of going wired when it comes to networking. But I must ask, is going wired better than wireless in your mind? There are certainly obvious advantages to each option.
Take the security aspect. Going wired is simply more secure, period. But wireless can often times be cheaper and generally more convenient in the long term.
Another point is new construction vs old construction. In old construction, going wireless is almost always preferred as it means not having to run cable yourself. Yet if you are remodeling or building from scratch, there is something to be said wi th having your rooms hardwired as a real benefit.
Hotels vs homes, offices vs fluid workspaces, the possibilities and needs are endless.
